ABTA LifeLine’s First Manchester Dinner

Charlotte Mulvanerty -

As darkness fell on All Hallows night and mist set all around, a shriek was heard bellowing through the dark hallways of The Hotel Gotham … “my glass is empty!” … but all was well as a smartly dressed waiter came and topped it up. 70 guests from all around the travel industry had swapped ghouls and ghosts for gold and glamour at ABTA LifeLine’s first Manchester dinner on the 31st of October.

We needed to make the event spectacular to show our Northern friends what our food, fun and fundraising dinners are all about. With its decadent interiors, glitter and gold surroundings and décor dripping in glamour and class it was clear to us that The Hotel Gotham was the venue to make this event special.

The night started in the hotel’s exclusive Club Brass, as waiters in white suits greeted all guests with a glass of bubbly. It was hard to convince everyone that the restaurant was even more amazing once the dinner call came, but they were not disappointed.

The wine was flowing, a delicious 3 courses had been enjoyed, the magician was wowing all and the night was flying by with such fun. We were then all treated to a hilarious story from the incredible England Rugby player Rory Underwood, sharing tales of when he was in the team. Our auctioneer (a.k.a ABTA LifeLine’s Chairman Derek Jones) then conducted what turned into a period of bidding wars, but with prizes like tickets to New York and a romantic Valentines lunch on-board the Belmond Northern Belle Vintage Train, it was no surprise. Our lucky raffle winners were also very happy with their prizes, including a bottle of champagne and a wine hamper.

For many the night was still young as we moved back to the Club Brass, our ears were ringing with the sound of laughter as everyone gushed about how much they had enjoyed the night.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all our guests who attended and took part in our auction and raffle. We have been blown away by how successful the night was and can’t wait to return next year for more food, fun and fundraising.
