Climb Mt Toubkal and help change lives! 6-9 October

Whether it’s supporting local communities, conserving nature and wildlife or opening travellers’ eyes to other cultures, travel has the power to change the world.

And now you’re invited to play your part in harnessing that power to make a positive change, as G Adventures and ABTA LifeLine invite you to join them for the second ‘G Trek for Good’.  The fundraising climb, which will take place in Morocco from 6th to 9th October, will bring together individuals from across the travel industry with the goal of raising money for Planeterra and ABTA LifeLine. The funds raised will be divided equally to support Planeterra’s work with vulnerable communities around the world, helping them access tourism and develop empowering employment as well as ABTA LifeLine’s practical, financial and emotional assistance provided to travel colleagues in times of need across the UK - a service that has been invaluable through the pandemic.

About the climb:

Jebel Toubkal is Morocco’s highest peak and the tallest peak in North Africa, standing at 4,167metres. Over four days you will take on an epic challenge and hike up the rocky peak. The climb will see you walk through local Berber villages and passing through vast valleys and sacred shrines, sleeping in a local refuge and camping beneath the stars along the way. Led by a team from G Adventures, you will hike to the summit in time to watch the sunrise on the third day, offering breathtaking views and a real sense of achievement.

Logistics:

Flights arrive into RAK airport from LGW and STN before 10am on Thursday 6th October, where you will be collected and transferred to start the trek. You will be finished in the afternoon on Sunday 9th, offering all day Sunday to explore and enjoy Marrakech if you wish.

Fundraising and costs:

We are aiming for a combined team target of £20,000 and asking each individual climber to raise a minimum of £500. All participants would be responsible for the costs of their own flights and participation on the trip. We are estimating £100 per person for the trek excluding flights.

About Planeterra:

Tourism is an $8 trillion global industry, but many local businesses and communities do not benefit from it. There are some forms of tourism where $0 reaches the hands of local people. Planeterra is G Adventures’ non-profit partner, which is working to break this cycle by supporting local communities in some of the world’s poorest countries, helping them to harness and benefit from global tourism. By strengthening community tourism around the world, economic opportunities are created, places are protected and cultures are celebrated through travel. Visit https://planeterra.org/
